As unusual as it may sound, avocado and mango make for a great hot dog. Folks in southern California won’t even blink an eye at this one!

This hot dog is just another example of California gold. Even if you’re traditional when it comes to your dogs, you should give these unusual toppings a try. You have to admit: avocado and mango are hip, and their fresh flavors work well together to enhance the taste of the dog. Plus, all the toppings are super simple to make.

Top It Right

To assemble, first layer the avocado mash on the hot dog, then follow it with the herby mayonnaise and mango-jalapeño pico de gallo.

Instructions

Preheat grill to medium-high.

Mash avocado with lime juice and salt with a potato masher or fork until chunky.

Whisk together mayonnaise, cilantro, and lime juice in a bowl until combined.

Combine mango, onion, jalapeño, honey, and lime juice in a bowl.

Grill hot dogs, covered, to desired doneness. Grill buns just until heated through and toasted. Serve hot dogs in buns with avocado mash, cilantro-lime mayonnaise, and mango pico de gallo.
