Check the accuracy of your thermometer by testing it in boiling water. Insert the thermometer stem about 2 inches into a pot of boiling water (don’t touch the bottom of pan). It should read 212°—the boiling point of water. If you live at a high altitude, the boiling temperature will be about 2° lower for every 1000 feet you are above sea level.
