The Many Uses for a Bench Scraper
One of the best kitchen tools is the bench knife (also known as a pastry or dough scraper). It’s a baker’s best friend and performs many tasks. Here are a few ways to use one in your kitchen.
Use a bench scraper to lift and turn sticky doughs, evenly divide rolled-out doughs, and finally, it does a real number on cleaning up your work surface. A bench scraper is great for cutting brownies, bars or lasagna, too. It’s quicker and cleaner to cut straight down than to drag a knife through.
For a cheaper, gentler bench scraper, you can purchase a 6" plastic joint knife at the hardware store. It has a nice bevel, great handle, and works perfectly—plus it's kinder to your counters and wooden cutting boards.
