Black Cherry Sauce

Black Cherry sauce is a flavorful and versatile sauce that can be topped over almost any dessert, like chocolate cake or vanilla ice cream. This recipe really puts the cherry on top of your favorite desserts.

Combine wine, sugar, vinegar, citrus peels, peppercorns, cloves, and cinnamon stick in a small saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil and reduce to 3/4 cup, about 5 minutes. Strain mixture, discard solids and return liquid to pan.

Mix cornstarch with water. Bring wine back to a boil, whisk in cornstarch mixture, and simmer until sauce is thickened, about 2 minutes.

Add cherries; simmer until heated through.

Off heat, stir in almond extract; serve sauce warm.
