Ingredients

Breading Tip

We added a little panko to the breading to make it a bit more crispy, but feel free to leave it out and use 1 cup flour instead.

Instructions

Combine buttermilk and hot sauce in a bowl; add chicken and marinate 20 minutes or overnight. Transfer chicken to a baking sheet lined with a rack; season with salt and pepper.

Whisk together flour, panko, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. pepper, and garlic powder in a bowl. Dredge chicken in flour mixture, shake off excess.

Preheat air fryer to 400° according to manufacturer’s instructions; set cook time to 18 minutes. (Add 35 minutes for preheating if your air fryer doesn’t include preheat function.)

Coat preheated cooking tray and chicken with nonstick spray; arrange chicken in a single layer on tray.

Cook chicken 9 minutes; open air fryer, coat chicken with nonstick spray, flip, and close air fryer. Continue cooking chicken until golden brown and a thermometer inserted into the thickest part but not touching bone registers 165°, about 9 minutes more. (If you have a smaller air fryer, you may need to do this in batches.)
