Red Velvet Waffles with chocolate
How about dessert for breakfast? Red Velvet Waffles’ rich chocolate flavor is irresistible. But, wait! Drizzling (or coating!) these waffles with the dreamy Cream Cheese Frosting seals the deal.
FOR THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING:
Good to Know
Depending on how many you’re cooking for, these recipes easily halve or double. If you’re cooking for a crowd, place cooked waffles in a 200° preheated oven to keep warm.
Heat butter and cocoa in a saucepan over low heat until butter melts; cool slightly.
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, espresso powder, and salt.
Whisk buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla, and vinegar into butter mixture until combined; gently stir into flour mixture with a fork until most (but not all) of flour mixture moistened. Fold in chocolate.
Preheat waffle iron according to manufacturer’s instructions, then coat with nonstick spray.
For the Cream Cheese Frosting
Slowly beat in powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
