Mint Julep Fruit Salad
To cut the richness of a casserole, like in our individual Hot Brown Casseroles, serve an adaptation of another Louisville classic, a mint julep-flavored fruit salad.
Bring water, sugar, and salt to a boil in a saucepan. Reduce heat to medium and simmer 5 minutes. Cool syrup in pan set inside a bowl of ice water until cold; stir in bourbon.
Combine pineapple, watermelon, and honeydew in a bowl; toss with syrup.
Chill salad, covered, 1 hour or overnight, stirring occasionally. Stir in fresh mint just before serving.
