Oven-Roasted Tomato Sauce
This recipe for Oven-Roasted Tomato Sauce is an all-purpose sauce that develops flavor from roasting — it's both fresh tasting and simple to make — pretty much it's what everyone is after when they're looking to make tomato sauce. This recipe makes 5 cups of sauce, more than you’ll need for many recipes. Refrigerate or freeze the leftovers and use them whenever you're looking for a light pasta sauce.
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450°.
Combine tomatoes, onions, garlic, salt, pepper flakes, and sugar.
Toss tomato mixture with oil and roast in a large baking dish until tomatoes blister and garlic is soft, 35–40 minutes. Remove tomato mixture from oven and mash with a potato masher, keeping tomatoes a bit chunky.
Stir in basil.
