Merry Mardi Gras Sazerac
We've updated and innovated on one of the oldest cocktails in the US and the official cocktail of New Orleans — no, it isn’t the Hurricane, it’s the Sazerac. The Sazerac gets its name from the brand of brandy that was originally used in this cocktail. Sazerac is in the same family of cocktails as the Manhattan and the Old Fashioned, with whiskey and bitters being the main components. To complement the aromatic bitters in this drink, both Peychaud and Angostura bitters are used. And to tastefully stretch this powerful cocktail, Cuisine’s Merry Mardi Gras Sazerac has added a little ginger beer. Laissez bon temp rouler!
Add crushed ice to one old-fashioned glass. Set aside.
Add sugar cube and water to another old-fashioned glass; muddle together. Add a small amount of ice and the rye and bitters. Stir to combine.
Discard the ice in the first glass. Rinse with Pernod. Strain cocktail into glass and top off with ginger beer. Twist lemon over the cocktail.
