Don’t just keep dental floss in your medicine cabinet. Keep some in the kitchen too. Unflavored dental floss is often better than a knife to cleanly cut all kinds of soft foods—soft cheese, rolled dough, layered cake and cheesecake. For rolled dough and soft cheeses, like this fresh goat cheese, slide a piece of floss underneath the cylinder shape. Cross both ends above to create an “x.” Pull the ends in opposite directions. This twist will pinch the soft food for a clean cut. When you see how well it cuts, then try it on cakes.
