Ruby Sippers

As you sip this bubbly cocktail, clink the glass, click your heels together, and say, "There's no place like home." Easy on the eyes and the taste buds, this Ruby Sipper cocktail will likely become a new tradition for special occasions, too. And for a festive presentation and a touch of extra sweetness, rub the rims of your Champagne flutes with an orange wedge, then dip them in red sugar before filling with the cocktail.

Test Kitchen Tip

Make your own red sugar for garnishing by placing white sugar in a resealable plastic bag and adding a few drops of red food color. Shake the bag to coat all of the sugar crystals, then spread the sugar on a baking sheet to dry. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.

Instructions

Pulse cranberries and cranberry juice in a food processor until berries are coarsely chopped. Simmer cranberry mixture in a saucepan over medium heat with sugar, orange juice, and orange rind until syrupy, about 10 minutes. Strain syrup, then cool to room temperature.

Pour 1–2 Tbsp. syrup into glasses, then top with sparkling wine.

Use a fine-mesh sieve to catch the tiny cranberry seeds. Don't chill the syrup — it will thicken like jelly.
